Propane Refills at Lockaway Storage
Not every errand needs a separate stop.
Lockaway Storage has propane refill stations at select locations, and you don't have to be a storage customer to use them. Heading out to camp, got a cookout this weekend, or just noticed your RV tank is running low? Stop in and top off while you're already out.
Who Can Use the Propane Refill Station
No storage rental needed. The propane station is open to the public during office hours. If you're nearby and running low, you're welcome to come in.
That said, it's worth a quick call ahead to make sure someone's available to assist.
What We Refill
We refill tanks for most common propane uses:
- Backyard and BBQ grills
- RVs and campers
- Patio heaters and fire pits
- Outdoor cooking equipment
- Tailgates and cookouts
Not sure whether your tank qualifies? Give the facility a call before you come in.
Propane Refill vs. Propane Exchange
Most people don't realize there's a difference.
With an exchange, you hand over your tank and get a pre-filled one back, but you're paying for a full tank regardless of how much was left in yours, and you walk away with someone else's equipment.
With a refill, your tank stays yours. You pay for what actually goes in, nothing more. If you go through propane regularly, grilling, camping, or heating the patio, refilling is almost always the better deal.
How It Works
Three steps and you're done:
Bring Your Tank
Make sure it's within its certification date. Tanks require recertification after 12 years, and expired tanks cannot be refilled.
Check In at the Office
Let the team know you're there for a propane refill. A trained team member will handle the fill.
Pay and Go
You're charged for the amount of propane added, not a flat rate for a full tank.
If you're unsure about your tank's certification status, the team can take a look when you arrive.
Is Your Tank Still Good?
Before you make the trip, it's worth checking a few things:
Certification Date
Stamped on the collar of the tank. Most tanks are good for 12 years from manufacture, then require recertification every 5 years after that.
Visible Damage
Dents, rust, or damaged valves may disqualify a tank from being refilled for safety reasons.
Valve Condition
The OPD (overfill protection device) valve is required on all tanks 4 lbs and larger. Older tanks without one cannot be refilled.
Not sure about your tank? Call ahead and describe it. We'd rather sort it out over the phone than have you drive over for nothing.
