Here at Lockaway Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our renters is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with Drea Martinez, who is celebrating her 1-year anniversary with Lockaway Storage.
You can meet Drea at Lockaway Storage on the corner of FM 78 and 3009 in Schertz, Texas.
Peter: Is this your one year anniversary?
Drea: Yes it is.
Peter: That’s awesome! Congratulations!
Drea: Thank you.
Peter: How did you start working with Lockaway Storage?
Drea: I was referred by Patrick Belmont. He’s my boyfriend.
Peter: Nice! Do you ever work at the same facility?
Peter: I guess that’s probably for the best.
Drea: Yeah, I tell him that we can’t even cook in the same kitchen!
Peter: My girlfriend and I are the same. What’s that phrase, too many cooks in the kitchen?
Peter: Was this job what you thought it would be like before you got into it?
Drea: I enjoy it a lot more than I thought actually, so it exceeded my expectations. I love the company.
Peter: Were you wanting to get into property management, or was it more about just having something stable?
Drea: That’s what it was initially, a day job. I used to work nights and it was a commission job. I like the steady, reasonable hours and pay. Eventually I wanted my own store and I just got promoted and will be taking over Rittiman.
Peter: Oh man, another congratulations is in order!
Drea: Thank you.
“Andrea Martinez is a great find. What I love about her is her attention to refining her craft. What impresses me is when I coach her on ways of being the best she can be. She is always up for the challenge. She takes notes and it doesn’t take long for her to implement my strategies. She is hungry to make a name for herself in the company and is very competitive with a great sense of humor. By far, reasons I felt she deserved a management position, without a doubt. She will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.”
“Big” Henry, Lockaway Storage District Manager
Peter: So taking over your own store…are you nervous at all?
Peter: Will you have an assistant?
Drea: I’ll have an assistant, his name is Mason. I’ve met him before but I haven’t talked with him much before. It’s about 500 units.
Peter: Have you worked over there at all yet?
Drea: I’ve worked over there to cover a manager if they needed time off but I haven’t been there for a while.
Peter: Well over the last year I imagine you’ve interacted with a lot of different people coming in and out, are there any that are memorable that stand out?
Drea: Actually everybody I’ve come in contact with is outstanding. Corey is such a patient teacher. My senior team leader Aurora is very patient as well. And you know Henry and Amy are awesome too.
Peter: I love Henry and Amy. The whole Medrano family is great!
Drea: They are!
Peter: I’d like to step away from storage for a bit. You aren’t always at work. Do you have hobbies that you like to do when you’re not on the clock?
Drea: I like to start different crafts. I rarely finish them but I love to start them!
Peter: What kind of crafting?
Drea: I like doing vinyl decal work, scrapbooking and party planning.
Peter: What kind of parties have you planned in the past?
Drea: Usually family and friends’ birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, stuff like that. Last year I helped my sister plan a 50s-themed Disney party, like with a 50s diner flair. It was really neat. That’s my other hobby, Disney vacations!
“Andrea as I like to call her the Queen of Phone Rentals is a wonderful person. Andrea is a Team Player. Anytime you ask her to do something or help out she never hesitates. She takes initiative in her work and is a very quick learner. She is great with customers and team members and she has taught me a lot over the time we have been working together. She will be missed at Lockaway Storage 3009 but I am very excited to see her perform well at her new store I know she will makes us proud!”
Austin Sanchez, Lockaway Storage 3009 & FM 78 Facility Manager
Peter: Do you live in San Antonio? How long have you lived there?
Drea: Yes, I’ve been here most of my life. I’m a local.
Peter: Do you have places in town you’d recommend that’s specific to San Antonio? Restaurants, places to go, things like that.
Drea: Mostly we like to go to smaller, mom and pop restaurants and every once in a while we go downtown. I used to work with the horse carriages downtown so I always tell people that they have to take a carriage ride!
Peter: Do you have a favorite local restaurant?
Drea: My favorite is Lone Star Cafe on the Riverwalk.
Peter: Can you sit right on the Riverwalk pretty close to the water?
Drea: Yes. We had tickets to eat there one day when the Spurs won the championship and got to see the players up close for the parade!
Peter: I’m a big Spurs fan. Is there anybody you’d like to give a shout out to at Lockaway that’s helped you out in the last year? I guess you have to give a shout out to Patrick right?
Drea: Yeah I guess I could give a shout out to Patrick. Haha! Also Henry, Amy, Corey and Aurora and also Austin Santos. They’ve been the ones to help me get to where I’m at.
