RV Storage Near Lake Conroe: Enclosed, Covered or Outdoor?
If you’re in Montgomery, Conroe, Willis or The Woodlands and your RV is taking over the driveway, you’ve got options. Here’s a plain look at the three kinds of RV spaces at Lockaway Storage - Lake Conroe and how to pick between them.
Why Not Just Keep It at Home
For a lot of owners, home isn’t an option. HOAs limit what can be parked on the street or in the driveway, and some neighborhoods don’t allow RVs at all. Even where it’s allowed, a 30 foot rig can block a driveway and make backing out a chore.
Storing off site gives you the yard back, and the RV a proper home between trips.
Outdoor Spaces for Everyday Use
Outdoor spaces are the budget friendly option, and they work well if you’re out camping most weekends. We have outdoor spaces around 33 and 35 feet long, which fit most travel trailers, fifth wheels and Class C motorhomes.
If you take the RV out often, this is usually all you need.
Covered Spaces for Sun and Rain
Texas weather is hard on an RV. Covered spaces put a roof over it, which helps protect roofing, seals, tires and paint from sun and storms. We have a 50 foot covered space, and it includes a power outlet, which is handy for maintenance.
If your RV sits for weeks at a time, covered is worth a look.
Enclosed Spaces for Long Stretches
Enclosed spaces are fully closed, and they’re the best choice for RVs that sit through the off season, or for owners who want the vehicle completely out of the weather. We have enclosed sizes of 11' x 26', 12' x 30', 13' x 35' and 14' x 45'.
The 13' x 35' space has a power outlet. Enclosed spaces need your own lock, and we recommend a disc lock.
Measuring Your RV
Measure bumper to bumper, including the hitch, ladder, bike rack and spare tire. Add a few feet so you can maneuver. Check the height as well, particularly for enclosed spaces, and the width with mirrors out.
If you’re on the edge of a size, go bigger. Backing into a tight space gets old fast.
Types of RVs and Trailers We See
Motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, pop-ups and camper vans are all common. Boats on trailers, utility trailers and cars are stored here too. If you aren’t sure whether yours will fit, give us the length and height and we’ll point you to a space.
What to Know Before You Rent
Bring a government-issued photo ID and a payment method. For RVs, you may also need registration, title and proof of insurance. Insurance or tenant protection is required, and you can use our plan or your own qualifying policy.
Rentals are month to month, with no long-term contract, so you can rent for a season or stay for years. You can also rent online, by phone or in person.
Prepping Your RV for Storage
A little prep goes a long way. Clean the inside and outside, empty the tanks and the water lines, and remove any food. Check tire pressure, and think about covers for the tires. Disconnect or maintain the battery, and leave a moisture absorber inside.
For colder months, our post on storing your RV during winter has more detail, and our guide to storing a car long term covers the basics that apply to any vehicle.
