Enjoy Some Craft Beer
Founded in 2007, Southern Star Brewing was one of the first craft breweries in the great state of Texas, and the first craft brewery to put their beer in cans. This is a casual spot situated on 13 wooded acres, with a tap room that overlooks the production brewhouse and features an outdoor biergarten. They offer live music on Fridays, have food trucks on Friday and Saturday, and you can get a guided tour of the brewery on Saturday afternoons. Check out their calendar for special events.
Another popular spot is the B52 Brewing Company. This really is a destination unto itself, with a shaded outdoor beer garden featuring a patio bar. They’ve also got an indoor, climate-controlled taproom for when the weather isn’t cooperating. Food trucks are onsite every day that they’re open, and you can check their calendar to see which trucks are available. If you’ve got friends or family members that aren’t into beer (perish the thought) they also have a wide selection of wine, cider, and mead.
Taste Some Wine
Conroe is at the center of the Sam Houston Wine Trail, and in the center of Conroe is the B E Winery’s Lounge on Main, right across the square across from the courthouse. Low lighting and comfy seating make this a great place to kick back and chill out. If the countryside feel is more your thing, visit the main winery and tasting room, nestled among 15 acres with an outdoor patio and a great view of the pond. Enjoy live music on Saturdays or check out their events calendar for something special.
The Bernhardt Winery and vineyard is nearby in the rolling hills of Plantersville. If you’re ready for a little getaway, you can stay in one of their Tuscan-style guest rooms at the Bed & Breakfast, while enjoying quality wines sourced from their own vineyard, and other, diverse viticultural areas. Get in the (Distilled) Spirit
If hard liquor is more your speed, Bartletts Distillery has got you covered. Bartletts ferments and distills several varieties of rum and whiskey. These are small batch, craft products that feature a uniqueness that you won’t find from mass produced distilleries. Visit Bartletts and see how spirits are made, enjoy a cocktail, and take a bottle home.
For a truly unique experience, step back in time to the dark period of Prohibition at The Social Speakeasy. Enjoy the strong 1920’s vibe while you savor a classic, period-correct cocktail, or sample one of their many specialty cocktails. The Social makes their syrups in-house with local organic ingredients, and all of their juices are fresh squeezed. A word of warning to the ultra-casual - this place does enforce a dress code to maintain the retro, nostalgic vibe. Be sure to observe the House Rules.
